Boarding School Letters: Between 1978-1980 (ages 7-9), I went to boarding school in England while my parents and baby brother lived in Sierra Leone. My parents unknowingly left me in the care of an unapologetically racist woman. As the only child of color in the elementary school, I was the sole target of her sadistic cruelty. And so, in those two years, I came undone.
Over the past winter holidays, I found all the letters my parents wrote to me while we were apart. And so began this series…exploring external boundaries and internal rifts.
